may 2009 update

» Posted by Nancy Elizabeth on 04/05/09

This summer will see me awaiting the release of my second album 'Wrought Iron'. In the meantime, I'll be playing the odd festival, including Roskilde in Denmark, a few in Italy, Spain and the good old UK. Keep an eye on th'old gigs page to see were I'll be popping up.

Other than that, doing another session with James Yorkston and getting everything ready for my own imminent album release.

That'll do for now.

The compositions I have been working on with Japanese Electronica artist, Susumu Yokota, are due to be released as part of a new album called 'mother' in February. The album will be coming out on the Lo Recordings label, and also features tracks with Efterklang, Caroline Ross and Our Broken Garden.

Keep your ears open for it.

First update in a while

» Posted by Nancy Elizabeth on 16/10/08

Frankly, I've been having too much fun to update my website for a while, but here we are, finally...

I'm back in Wigan after my month of Spanish sunshine. It is a breath of both metaphorical and literal fresh air to be back.

I'm giving the gigging a rest until the end of the year while I work on my second album. I'm due to embark upon this task tomorrow, when I shall leave my safe haven and journey to a beautiful Welsh recording studio. I hope to have the album ready for an easter time release.

James Yorkston's album "When the Haar Rolls In" is being received well. He posted me my box set as soon as I arrived back from Spain. It's a lovely article. I recommend it. I played harp and sang on some of his tunes, as well as contributing a cover version of 'Sweet Jesus'. It's an album full of delights, with contributions from all kinds of wonderful people, including The Pictish Trail, David Thomas Broughton. Charlotte Grieg, Foretet, Adrian Crowley, King Creosote and John Smith, to name afew.

Other than that, I bought some nice new socks today (always a good feeling wearing new socks for the first time, only usually happens between Christmas day and new year though). I've cut my own hair again, at first I thought I'd made a terrible mistake, but it's settled down and looks pretty good now, I think.

Update

Well, I thought I should write a little news on the site, as I haven’t done so for a while. I’m going to tour Spain in September (hence the picture). My plan to drive there last time I visited didn’t take off, and I was subject to the wonders of Ryan Air once again, but this time I am driving, all the way to Spain and back again, with a little of Portugal thrown in too.

I’m doing a double headline show with Racheal Unthank on the 8th October in Oxford, and apart from scattering of other shows, my time will be spent on preparing for the recording of my second album, which I plan to do at the end of October. I’ve recently acquired a vibraphone, which I shall not be sporting at upcoming gigs due the immense size of the thing, and the impossibility of transporting it. However, it will certainly feature on my upcoming album, and if I have the chance to buy a van, it will make an appearance at some shows in the future.
